See YG Address ‘F–k Donald Trump’ Song, Uniting ‘Blacks and Browns’
At the end of his latest album, Still Brazy, YG tackles a number of social issues with a provocative, searing trio of tracks. Transitioning from “FDT” — which stands for “Fuck Donald Trump” — to “Blacks and Browns” and ending with “Police Get Away Wit Murder,” the Compton rapper sets out to unite the black and Hispanic communities while addressing injustice and racism.
“It was all organic,” the rapper told Rolling Stone during an office visit of how he put together the powerful group of songs. “It was me in the middle of working on my album while all this stuff was going on. I decided to use my platform and speak up for the people with some authority behind it.”
On “Blacks and Browns” YG teams up with Mexican-American rapper Sad Boy to call for unity between the black and Hispanic communities. “I think the majority of the people that know about our relationship, they only know the bad side,” YG explained. “Where I’m from, the West Coast is gang-infested and it is a lot of black gangs beefing with Hispanic gangs. The other side of things is we love each other. We share a lot of similar things, same cultural things.”
On a personal note, Still Brazy also addresses the downsides of the MC’s newfound fame, including people around him who use him for his money. He addresses this issue most directly on the brief “Good Times Interlude.” “That interlude represents how it be for me in moments when I feel like I’m having a good time and somebody gonna come … and mess up my whole vibe,” he said. “But that comes with success.”
