Watch Drake Serve Up ‘Hotline Bling’ on the Tennis Court
Drake‘s dance moves are unquestionably the greatest thing about his new “Hotline Bling” video, and not just because with each stray shake or shimmy, he makes it abundantly clear that he cannot actually dance.
And yet, despite that – or, perhaps, because of it – the clip became an Internet sensation almost instantly, latching on to an already existing hashtag (#AlwaysOnBeat) to spawn something entirely new: #DrakeAlwaysOnBeat. Seriously, no matter what song you play over the “Hotline Bling” video, Drake gyrates to the tune in perfect time. It kind of makes you wonder if he and Director X planned it that way.
Of course, given his affiliation with the Toronto Raptors, it didn’t take long for the NBA to catch wind of Drake’s moves, with teams like the Miami Heat scoring the video with Glenn Frey’s “The Heat Is On” and the Detroit Pistons superimposing ageless guard Steve Blake’s head onto Drizzy’s body to create the oddly hypnotic #HotlineBlake. The Philadelphia 76ers also got in the act, drafting their mascot, Franklin the Dog, to star in a remake of the clip.
But all of those videos pale in comparison to the work of one intrepid Vine-r, who took “Hotline Bling,” gave Drake a tennis racket and added the sounds of the sport into the mix (there are also a few seconds of Wii Sports thrown in for good measure). Needless to say, the end result is spectacular:
It makes sense, given the rumors that Drake is (or was?) dating tennis star Serena Williams. And, having watched his moves on the court, we can see why Williams was interested.
