Jim Gaffigan Will Release Next Stand-Up Special Online
Comedian Jim Gaffigan says he will release his next stand-up special through a $5 download on his website, borrowing the very successful model created by fellow comic Louis C.K. for his own most recent special. Jim Gaffigan: Mr. Universe will be taped February 25th in Washington D.C. and released in April.
Gaffigan plans to donate one dollar from each sale to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which supports injured war veterans. He’s confident, he wrote online, that the low price and the charitable donation will prevent any potential piracy. “Who would want the karma of stealing from wounded veterans?” he joked. “Come on you guys. How dare you even think about it?”
Last fall C.K. released Live at the Beacon Theater as a download on his website, netting more than $1 million in a matter of days. He donated more than a quarter of the money to charities and gave another $250,000 to assistants as bonuses.
If his own plan fails, says Gaffigan, then he assumes he will lose a lot of money and have egg on his face. “But then again, I have four kids, so I am always losing money and usually have egg or some kind of food on my face.”
