Andrea True Dead at 68
Disco star Andrea True died earlier this month at age 68 at a hospital in Kingston, New York. The Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home announced her passing with an obituary notice, but her cause of death was not revealed.
True, born Andrea Marie Truden, originally planned to become an actress in New York but became a porn star in films such as Deep Throat Part II and Lady on the Couch. True’s career in music began when she went to Jamaica to film a commercial in 1975 but was not allowed to leave the country with the money she had earned. Instead of handing over her money, she recorded an early version of her eventual hit “More, More, More” and left Jamaica with the master tape. The song was remixed and released in 1976, becoming one of the iconic songs of the disco era.

In addition to “More, More, More,” True had hits with singles such as “What’s Your Name, What’s Your Number?,” “Party Line” and “N.Y., You Got Me Dancing.” None achieved the massive popularity of “More, More, More,” which went on to be widely licensed in movies and advertisements and sampled in many other songs, including Len’s 1999 single “Steal My Sunshine.”
