Bruce Springsteen Will Be Keynote Speaker at SXSW 2012
Bruce Springsteen will be the keynote speaker at the annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas. The event will be held on March 15th at the Austin Convention Center. “His recordings include time-tested classics of rock and acoustic-based albums celebrating folk traditions,” SXSW said in a press release. “His live shows are truly fervent celebrations of the communal power of music. As SXSW fosters connection and communication in the music community, this event will undoubtedly further those aims in an unique conference session.” Past keynote speakers include Neil Young, Robert Plant, Smokey Robinson and Johnny Cash.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are touring next year in support of a new album. Dates for an extensive European tour kicking off May 13th in Seville, Spain have been announced, but so far there’s been no official word about the American leg of the tour. It reportedly kicks off in early March and runs for about two months, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Virtually nothing is known about the new album. “The music is almost done (but still untitled), we have almost settled on the release date (but not quite yet),” reads a post on Springsteen’s official website. “We are all incredibly excited about everything that we’re planning for 2012.”
