George Clooney, Woody Allen, Trent Reznor Earn Golden Globe Nods
The silent film The Artist leads the nominations in this year’s Golden Globe Awards, with six nods including Best Film Comedy or Musical. The Descendants and The Help follow just behind with five nominations each, including a Best Actor in a Drama nod for George Clooney‘s performance in the former. Clooney was also nominated for best director for The Ides of March.
Other notable best actor nominations include Rooney Mara for her role in the forthcoming The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptation by David Fincher, Viola Davis for her part in The Help, Kristen Wiig for her starring role in Bridesmaids and Jonah Hill for his dramatic turn in Moneyball. Hollywood mainstays Meryl Streep and Woody Allen have also received honors, the former for her part as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, and the latter for directing his surprise summer hit Midnight in Paris.
In the music categories, Trent Reznor and his partner Atticus Ross are once again nominated for original score for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, after having won the prize last year for their work on The Social Network. Also, Mary J. Blige, Chris Cornell, Elton John and Madonna are nominated for original song.
