Courtney Love Evicted from Manhattan Townhouse
Courtney Love is being evicted from her townhouse in Manhattan’s West Village after she allegedly set it on fire and ruined its designer décor. The Hole singer has been renting the four-story building for $27,000 a month for 10 months. In addition to the damages, the building owner says that Love owes $54,000 in rent.
One of the conditions of Love’s lease was that she could not alter the interiors of the building, which had been decorated by the previous resident, interior designer Steven Gambrel. “Courtney has wallpapered and painted a large portion of the property without my consent,” owner Donna Lyon told the New York Post. “I learned about this when I wanted to sell the house and had photographs taken. They sent me the brochure and I said, ‘This can’t be my property.’ I came to New York to see it and I was horrified by what she had done. The walls that had been hand-painted and glazed were ruined, covered in damask wallpaper and ice-blue paint.”
One of Love’s candles accidentally set curtains in the building’s master bedroom on fire in June. “I got a call from her accountant, who said, ‘Miss Love is fine,’ which I was glad to hear, but I thought, ‘What about the house?’,” Lyon told the Post.
