Afghan Whigs Replace Guided by Voices for All Tomorrow’s Parties
The Afghan Whigs have been announced as the headliners of the All Tomorrow’s Parties’ “I’ll Be Your Mirror” festivals in both London and Asbury Park, New Jersey next year. The reunited band, who will play their first gig in 13 years at the London festival in May, have replaced fellow Ohio rockers Guided by Voices as the headliner of that event.
Contrary to the All Tomorrow’s Parties press release announcing the Whigs’ gigs, Guided by Voices have not broken up again in advance of touring for Let’s Go Eat the Factory, their first album of new material since 2004. “Guided by Voices are canceling their appearances at Primavera and ATP/I’ll Be Your Mirror due to personal reasons,” says David Newgarden, a representative for the band. “The band apologizes for any inconvenience and disappointment, and thanks Primavera, ATP and the fans for their longterm support.” Rolling Stone contacted the ATP staff about the press release, but have not yet heard from them.
Despite the setback, the ever-prolific group have already begun work on a second post-reunion album titled Class Clown Spots a UFO, and frontman Robert Pollard is set to release a new solo record, Mouseman Cloud, in March.
