Iggy and the Stooges Delay American Tour
Iggy and the Stooges have delayed their upcoming four-date tour of America because Iggy Pop broke his foot during a festival gig in Romania late last month. “During the show Iggy came down hard and in an unusual place on the mic stand which was laying on the floor,” Stooges guitarist James Williamson wrote on Facebook. “He finally saw a doctor yesterday and has a pair of fractured metatarsal bones in his foot which will put him out of action for 6/8 weeks. It is with great regret we have to postpone the dates for LA, Vegas and San Francisco but if he goes ahead he could injure himself further and thus with a longer recovery. We are looking at rescheduling for the end of Oct/early Nov.”
The injury happened sometime during the opening two numbers of “Raw Power” and “Search And Destroy.” As you can see in the video below, Iggy screams out “I think I broke my foot!” after “Search and Destroy.” He somehow managed to complete the gig. “Every time he looks back I can see a motherfuckin’ GIANT HURT flailing through him,” Stooges bassist Mike Watt wrote in his online diary. “He is driven w/a courage I am totally in awe of. He is gonna work this fucking gig no matter what.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone last month, Iggy revealed that he recently wrote 10 songs with Williamson. “I think we like about half of them,” he said. “We’ll keep writing. I think he’d like to make an album and I’d like to make more the score for an intelligent video game. So as far as what the format might be, I don’t know.”
