Neutral Milk Hotel Unearths New Music for Box Set
Jeff Mangum, the reclusive songwriter behind Neutral Milk Hotel, has announced plans to self-release a vinyl-only box set compiling the band’s entire body of work, including 15 previously unreleased tracks.
The set will include the band’s two albums, On Avery Island and the critically acclaimed In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, along with the Everything Is EP, an EP of unreleased songs titled Ferris Wheel on Fire, three 7-inch singles and two posters. The box will be sold for $108 in the United States, with a dollar from each set donated to the Children of the Blue Sky charity.
The 15 unreleased recordings will also be available as “pay-what-you-wish” downloads via Bandcamp. Two previously unheard songs from the set, “Oh Sister” and “Ferris Wheel on Fire,” are now streaming on the band’s website.

Mangum, who has largely avoided public performances in the past decade, is about to hit the road on his own next month. The singer is headlining at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Asbury Park in October and in Minehead, England in December, and will play a handful of headlining gigs through the fall.
