Elephant 6 Documentary Seeking Funds
The people behind a documentary about the Elephant 6 Recording Company – the collective of musicians founded by members of the Olivia Tremor Control, the Apples in Stereo and Neutral Milk Hotel in the early Nineties – is seeking funds to finish their film via crowdfunding. The documentary, A Place We Have Been To: A Film Featuring the Elephant 6 Recording Co., features interviews with many of the musicians in the collective. The producers have made a preview for the film available on their PledgeMusic crowdfunding site.
For more than 20 years, Elephant 6 artists have put out experimental, lo-fi and psychedelic sounds that began catching on in the late Nineties. Since then, bands from the collective, including Of Montreal, Dressy Bessy and Elf Power, have gone on to earn critical success.
Director Chad Stockfleth will be holding an “in-progress screening” of the film so far at Athens, Georgia’s Athens Ciné on October 13th. Elephant 6 co-founder Robert Schneider – who has played with the Apples in Stereo and Circulatory System – will perform at the screening.
Rewards for helping to fund the doc include everything from digital downloads of the film to an executive producer credit. Most funding levels also include tickets to the screening in Athens. Fans who want material items can also donate to receive T-shirts and posters with an illustration by Will Cullen Hart of the Olivia Tremor Control and Circulatory System. The producers have not posted a funding goal for the project, but the goal was one-third fulfilled as of Wednesday.
