MGMT Plot Spring Tour of North America
With a new album on the way, MGMT are hitting the road for a string of North American dates this spring. The tour kicks off April 26th in State College, Pennsylvania, and continues through May 18th at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, with a scattering of festival dates in June and July. The pre-sale for some shows starts Wednesday at noon local time. The band is also planning a special Record Store Day release on April 20th, though they haven’t said what it will be.
500 Greatest Albums of All Time: MGMT, ‘Oracular Spectacular’
The duo of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden expect to release their third album in June. Rather than record with a full band this time, the pair holed up with producer Dave Fridmann and a roomful of synthesizers in his western New York studio to work on the album, which they say will be weirder than their 2010 release Congratulations. “We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it,” Goldwasser recently told Rolling Stone.
