Band to Watch: Low Cut Connie
Hometowns: Philadelphia, New York and Birmingham, England
Backstory: Adam Weiner, an aspiring musician stuck playing piano in a New York karaoke bar, decided to form a new band during a particularly dreary session in 2010. The next morning, he called up his Birmingham-based friend Dan Finnemore, a garage rock devotee and film professor, who dug the idea and hopped on a plane to the States. The duo decamped to Philadelphia, where they rounded out their lineup and refined their raucus retro-rock, rockabilly and Britpop sound.
No Label, No Problem: Low Cut Connie already have two albums under their belts – their 2011 debut Get Out the Lotion and last year’s Call Me Sylvia – both of which the band self-released.
Hot Clip: Check out Low Cut Connie burning up their favorite South Philly dive, Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar, with a performance of “Say Yes” while a snowstorm rages outside.
