Ducktails Deliver Their ‘Letter of Intent’ – Premiere
Ducktails take the Big Apple in their new video for “Letter of Intent,” the latest single from their record The Flower Lane. Released January 29th, the album is the band’s first with Domino Records, and it’s also their most collaborative.
Though Ducktails started as a solo project by Matt Mondanile, the guitarist of Real Estate, it’s evolved into a more collective effort. “Letter of Intent” features Joel Ford of Ford and Lopatin on bass, synth work by Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never and vocals from Jessa Farkas of Future Shuttle and Ian Drennan of Big Troubles.
As the band has evolved, so have their videos. The 2009 video for “Landrunner” featured trippy cut-and-paste style animation, with no actual appearances by instruments or people; however, this latest video puts the band and their instruments front-and-center. Dropped in the heart of New York, the band plays while casually perched on rock walls. Farkas rarely removes her hands from her pockets, making “Letters of Intent” look as charmingly effortless as it sounds.
“This video was filmed entirely in Central Park on the coldest day I’ve ever experienced,” Mondanile tells Rolling Stone. We stood outside all day from the morning to the night. I think I got sick after this.”
