Emmylou Harris Charged in L.A. Freeway Accident
Emmylou Harris has been charged with a misdemeanor traffic offense in connection with a Los Angeles highway accident last year, The Associated Press reports. A lawyer for the Grammy-winning singer has entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf, according to TMZ.
The hit-and-run charge stems from a fender-bender last October on the 405 freeway. The California Highway Patrol began investigating the incident when someone filed a report claiming that Harris didn’t stop after the rental car she was driving hit another vehicle.
A representative for Harris called the crash a “garden-variety accident that happens every day on the 405,” and added that the musician left the scene because she didn’t realize she’d hit another car. If convicted on the hit-and-run charge, Harris could face up to six months in jail.
The singer next month will release a new album of duets with Rodney Crowell.
