Watch Chris Pratt and Kate McKinnon in Awkward, Dill-icious ‘SNL’ Promos
Saturday Night Live‘s 40th season kicks off on September 27th with host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande. And if this new round of promo clips is any indication, the Guardians of the Galaxy star has already sparked comedic chemistry with the sketch show’s cast, particularly Kate McKinnon.
In the above video, Pratt and McKinnon come off like a well-versed comedy duo, with Pratt playing the wide-eyed straight-man and McKinnon offering an array of bizarre antics – several tinted with awkward sexual tension. In one clip, McKinnon pretends to be hearing directorial notes that she needs to move in closer to Pratt, and she proceeds to grind on him while the actor looks dumbfounded. “I mean, I like you – you’re immensely talented,” Pratt says. “But I’m married.”
“Oh, to Anna Faris?” McKinnon responds. “Never heard of her. But she’s welcome to join the party. Human sexuality is a dazzling spectrum.” (Best exchange: “You smell like a hospital.” “I washed my hair with hand soap in the bathroom.”) Other standout moments include a riff about “prat” being a “swear word in England” and McKinnon forcing the heartthrob to open a series of pickle jars as she watches creepily.
Season 40 will bring a number of familiar faces back to the show. The October 4th episode will mark the SNL hosting debut of comedian Sarah Silverman, who worked as a writer and performer on SNL during the 1993-94 season. Eight-season alum/”Stefon” mastermind Bill Hader will return to host the October 11th episode.
Former cast member Darrell Hammond – best known for his endless arsenal of celebrity impressions – will return to SNL as announcer, replacing the late Don Pardo, who passed away in August at age 96.
