Roots Join Beasties Benefit
The Beastie Boys have extended their New Yorkers Against Violence concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City; the concert will now span two nights, October 28th and 29th.
The second show will feature the Beasties along with the Roots, Mos Def, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Rahat Ali Khan (who is also performing on October 28th) and Afrika Bambaataa. As previously reported, the Strokes, the B-52’s, Cibo Matto, Ali Khan, Rival Schools, Saul Williams and DJ Stretch Armstrong will perform at the first show. Additional guests are expected to be announced for both shows.
“In light of everything New York City’s firefighters, police and rescue workers have already done, getting this event together is the least we could do,” Beastie Boys Mike D said. “The sacrifices and true heroics of these people have been an inspiration to the entire world.”
Tickets for the event will cost $50. Proceeds will go to disaster relief funds established by two charities: the New York Women’s Foundation and the New York Association for New Americans Inc. Both funds were set up to help those victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks who are least likely to receive aid from other fundraising sources.
