‘Community’ Teaser Spoofs ‘Mad Men’
With her recurring role on Mad Men, Alison Brie is no stranger to having a chunk of her dialogue cut up and thrown into one of the show’s notoriously vague episode trailers. Now Brie’s other show, Community, is up to the same tricks, mimicking Mad Men‘s style in a clever new teaser for the show’s upcoming fifth season. It will leave you wondering who’s on the receiving end of a nasty “Shame on you!” from Annie (Brie) – though odds are it’s Jeff (Joel McHale).
The clip offers plenty of other head-scratchers to ponder until Community‘s January 2nd return, including who staged a robot fight and why Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) has to rationalize that Greendale Community College isn’t Harvard. (Let us count the ways.) The teaser also does an excellent job of interspersing the one-liners with random utterances of “although,” “um,” “no,” “because” and “whoa.” To quote an already out-of-context Britta (Gillian Jacobs): “Thank you?”
Rob Sheffield Celebrates ‘Community”‘s Stunning Episode, ‘Critical Film Studies’
While the new teaser doesn’t give many clues about Community‘s upcoming fifth season, the show released a much longer trailer that suggests the show will return to meta-tacular form with creator Dan Harmon back at the helm after a not-so-hot fourth season without him. That clip promises a Lord of the Rings spoof, a disastrous game of the Floor Is Lava and Abed (Dany Pudi) dressed as the crime-fighting cyborg Kickpuncher. Plus, if you’re feeling the Christmas spirit, you can also check out an animated clip in which the study group helps Jeff relearn the magic of the holidays via an answering machine, the Winter Olympics and a gift-vomiting Troy (Donald Glover).
Community will return to NBC on January 2nd with an hourlong premiere. The show will feature a slew of guest stars this year, including Breaking Bad‘s Jonathan Banks as a criminology professor and Justifieds Walton Goggins as an investigator linked to Pierce (Chevy Chase, who left the show in 2012). Suit up.
