Animoog Synthesizer App Comes to iPhone, iPod Touch
Moog Music’s high-tech synthesizer app, Animoog, just made the jump from iPad to iPhone. Previously available only on Apple’s popular tablet device, the application is immediately downloadable from the App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch and offers electronic music fans the opportunity to craft space-age soundtracks on mobile devices.
Priced at $0.99 for a limited time (tentatively pegged at 30 to 60 days), the program simulates the experience of playing a polyphonic synthesizer. Price will eventually rise to $9.99 after the initial introductory period. Functionality remains similar to the iPad edition, which lets composers manipulate rhythm, tone and volume as well as create futuristic songs via touchscreen. The Animoog for iPhone app won’t enjoy the benefit of greater screen real estate or an interface specially enhanced for slate computers, as its iPad cousin does, but it could provide millions more aspiring artists with access to a high-tech musical instrument that fits right in their pockets.
A more affordable alternative to the iPad edition, which currently retails for $29.99 (currently on sale at $9.99), the iPhone app’s key features include ability to dynamically adjust soundscapes, interact with on-screen visual representations of tunes and tweak timbre, pitch and modulation on-demand.
