Jon Stewart on the Limbaugh-Fluke Controversy
On last night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart took on the Rush Limbaugh-Sandra Fluke controversy, birth control and taxes (making sure to take certain prophylatic measures himself). Limbaugh, of course, called Fluke, a Georgetown law student who recently testified in Congress in favor of private insurance plans covering contraception coverage, a “slut” and a “prostitute.” Says Stewart: “Personally, I don’t get too worked up about the things Rush Limbaugh says, because he has been, for many years – a terrible person.” In Rush’s world, after all, any women concerned with, you know, her own health, is automatically a “Feminazi” – “someone who would herd you onto a train to go to an Indigo Girls concert.” So, what can you expect? The fun part, says Stewart, has been watching the GOP presidential contenders’ reactions to the kerfuffle, as they try to stay on the right side of Rush and his dittoheads without deep-diving all the way into his moral swamp.
