Kanye West’s Debut Womenswear Collection Draws Celebrities To Front Row, Ire From Critics
When Kanye West announced he was making his designer dreams a reality, there was only one way for the fashion-obsessed rapper to go: to the (borderline absurdist) max. That meant shrouding the entire operation in utter secrecy until literally days before the October 1st show, when it was announced his womenswear collection’s debut would take place in Paris. With rumors that everyone from creative heads at London design school Central Saint Martin’s to hot shot young Brit designers Louise Goldin and Katie Eary were on board to ensure that “Dw by Kanye West” (so-named for his late mother) was a success, pressures were unspeakably high. Despite the show’s clandestine profile, a number of stars (and designer pals) like Lindsay Lohan, Sky Ferreira, Ciara, and the Olsens were spotted in the front row. But did the clothes deliver?
Not really, it was quickly revealed, as critics registered their displeasure. A look through our gallery reveals some of the more memorable barbs that outlets ranging from The New York Times to WWD tossed in West’s general direction, while taking note of its more promising moments.
