Foster the People on the Benefits of Newfound Fame
While Foster the People may seem ubiquitous lately, the truth is the ‘Helena Beat’ hipsters from LA are still very much the new kids on the block. In fact, backstage at Lollapalooza, they told Rolling Stone that they didn’t realize how fast word about the band was spreading until after they learned that they were already charting in the blogosphere. Frontman Mark Foster can’t even hide his boyish pride when talking about the company that the band can suddenly keep. In fact, after a recent festival gig in Australia, Foster found himself hanging out with Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock. They “drank a beer on the balcony and talked about songwriting,” recalls Foster. “It’s not everyday that you’re around a songwriter you really respect. He got to tell me some anecdotes to writer’s block.”
