The Music Fan’s Guide to Fashion’s Night Out
Fashion’s Night Out is an opportunity to check out some truly inspiring music in intimate settings. Here are some of the standout performers going live and all-access for fashion tonight. (All performances are in New York City.)
Drake at Versace, 647 Fifth Avenue
8-10 p.m., invite only.
Likely the most sought after of all the Fashion Night Out musical happenings, you’ll need VIP status to check out Drake in a setting as intimate as one curated by Donatella Versace. Given the flash mobs instigated by the rapper’s other semi-secret performances, we’re sure we’ll be hearing more about this one tomorrow.
The Roots at John Varvatos, 122 Spring Street
9-11 p.m.
Varvatos’ Fall 2011 campaign stars the Roots perform a free show – and one that’s open to all.
Ellie Goulding at Niketown, 6 East 57th Street
6-9 p.m.
The radiant British folktronica star will deliver her chirpy, celestial sound via an intimate acoustic set.
Beth Ditto at MAC Cosmetics, 109 Spring Street
8 p.m.
The Gossip singer takes full command solo on her dazzling dance-fueled debut EP, and tonight she’ll bring it to a select crowd at MAC’s downtown compound. We suggest getting there early – we will.
Nicola’s Opening Soiree, 50 Walker Street
For Lady Gaga Fans or anyone in favor of intergalactic fashion. Fueled by non-profit group Boffo, stylist and creative director Nicola Formichetti’s store opens officially tomorrow, but celebrates FNO with a pop-up shop tonight. Whether his most famous friend will show up is anyone’s guess, but this one is sure to be anything but boring – rumors have it that fantasy gaming will be involved.
Surface To Air x Kid Cudi, 27 Mercer Street
The French label’s progressive new Soho boutique opened last night, and Kim Gordon and Chromeo showed up to celebrate the occasion. Tonight, as you shop Kid Cudi’s guest-designed collection for the line, you can also watch “Mr. Rager,” an inpsired video collaboration between the rapper and the design collective.
Heartbreaks at Burberry, 131 Spring Street
Recent Burberry campaign models and upstart British Indie band Heartbreaks make a rare US cameo tonight. Catch them while they’re young and green – a recent Morrissey supporting slot means they won’t stay hidden treasures for long.
Parachute at Kenneth Cole, 595 Broadway
Goo Goo Dolls doppelgangers already have a top 15 rock hit, “Something To Believe In,” under their belt. Tonight they’ll bring their salt-of-the-earth tunes straight to Soho for Kenneth Cole’s mix-and-mingle cocktail event.
Penguin Prison at All Saints, 15 West 13th Street
Neon Gold Records’ Penguin Prison has released a slew of high-caliber dance hits and all-star remixes. To go along with his Anglophilic leanings and the brand’s lineage, his cameo at All Saints’ Meatpacking party will be a full-force British dance extravaganza.
The Pierces at All Saints, 512 Broadway
At All Saints’ other downtown affair, this will be a slightly more sedate event, courtesy of seductive torch-singers Catherine and Allison Pierce.
Best Coast at Helmut Lang, 93 Mercer Street
6 p.m.
California’s lo-fi all stars present their enjoyable racket to a Euro-chic but equally minimalist-minded crowd. Let the friction begin.
Ronnie Spector at Bergdorf Goodman, 745 Fifth Avenue
6:45 pm
The Sixties Girl Group legend herself in a rare public mini-concert – completely unmissable.
Theophilus London at Tommy Hilfiger, 681 Fifth Avenue
9 – 11 p.m.
Mr. London graces the style glossies as much as music pages these days; consider his illustrious showing at Tommy Hilfiger tonight, courtesy of Belvedere Vodka, proof positive that men’s fashion has a new American icon.
Holy Ghost! at Prada, 575 Broadway
8:30 p.m.
DFA’s latest and greatest play an intimate set in the midst of what will be Soho’s most popular party zone. Expect non-stop disco vibes from Broome Street to Houston.
