VOYR Goes Behind the Scenes of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s ‘Watch the Throne’ Tour
Today marks the launch of the brand new entertainment platform, VOYR. For $5 a month, VOYR promises to give members a virtual all-access pass to exclusive, behind-the-scenes content from their favorite artists and celebrities.
The first act on the roster is the media-savvy Kanye West, just in time to kick off the highly anticipated Watch the Throne tour with Jay-Z on October 28th. This will be the first interactive concert tour powered by VOYR, where registered members will be able to watch exclusive live webcasts sponsored by Jeep. Other exclusive content available via subscription on Kanye’s channel will include his exercise routine, instructional videos by his personal chef, a Watch the Throne concert experience, rehearsals for the show, a documentary self-centeredly titled “Me,” and an animated series called “Runaway.”
When VOYR was first announced back in August, Kevyn Lewis, Chief Creative Officer of VOYR, said that the new platform would focus on inspirational stories and shareable, multimedia content related to how musicians, directors, actors, and other famous personalities juggle their creative enterprises. Looking to satisfy an audience of superfans craving more well-produced original content, VOYR plans to take their members beyond celebrity gossip and tabloid-fodder.
Even though it only officially launched today, the entertainment platform has already been called “the next MTV” for giving fans unprecedented access. And in this week’s press release, Gee Roberson, Chairman of Geffen Records, was quoted saying VoyR was a “historic” step in taking the music business to the next level.
Although Kanye and Jay-Z are the first collaborators to be made public, Lewis clarified that neither rap mogul has a stake in the company. Kanye’s obsessive work ethic did however play a part in the creative conception of the product, notably shooting down the idea of allowing members to vote on set designs.
Other high-profile power to be found on VOYR is rumored to include Oprah and Elton John. Lewis did not specify how much the artists will be compensated.
