Volkswagen Unveils Beetle Fender Edition
Last week, the VW Beetle Fender Edition made its debut at the Leipzig International Auto Show. Originally revealed as a concept car at the Frankfurt International Auto Show in 2011, the new 2012 Beetle is equipped with Fender’s premium audio system.
The Fender sound model consists of a 10-channel amplifier with 400-watt power and nine speakers, including Fender twin speakers and a Fender Bassman subwoofer. Also on board are Panasonic dual-voice coil speakers, which filter out background noise and create a soundstage for concert-quality play. The system was named “best-sounding car stereo” by CNET.
Fender’s aesthetics extend to the look of the Beetle, too. The iconic instrument maker’s logo appears on the “sunburst” guitar-style dashboard and also on the driver’s side exterior. The car comes in only one color: metallic black.
Volkswagen and Fender first partnered in 2010 to create these in-car features. In addition to the 2012 Beetle, Volkswagen’s 2012 Passat and the 2012 Jetta GLI come equipped with the Fender audio system. The Beetle Fender Edition will be available in Europe before it hits stateside dealers in the fall.
