Rihanna Says Clothing Line Is ‘In the Works’
Rihanna has been hinting at launching her own clothing line since 2008, long before she reached her current elite fashion strata of front-row seats, her own perfume range and a spokemodel/guest designer gig for Armani Jeans. On the heels of her latest video campaign for the megabrand, the 24-year-old singer told Ryan Seacrest that the accompanying “7- to 10-piece” spring collection will soon be in stores. “We’ve done the fall collection already, and it was very, very successful, and now the spring collection is about to drop,” she said.
No word on whether that high-profile collaboration will continue for another season, but she hinted that more significant and personal style pursuits are on the horizon – seemingly for real this time. “I’m really pursuing a fashion line of my own,” she confirmed to Seacrest. “I want to design. This is also a road that I want to earn it. So I’m working with designers, designers that I respect and [fashion] companies that I respect. I want people to really trust me before I just say, ‘Buy it because it’s mine.'”
As with Kanye and his team of ghost collaborators, it’s likely that we won’t know the identities of the talent Rihanna plans to line up for her design project. However, we do know that she has an affinity for British creatives, as she is even developing and hosting a televised competition for burgeoning designers alongside singer Nicola Roberts. Clue or coincidence? We’ll be watching to find out.
