Audio Aesthetics: Molami’s Haute Headphones
Molami’s premium headphones are a Scandinavian design fetishist’s dream come true: sleek, sexy, built for sophisticated sonic performance and as discreet or statement-making as you want them to be. Created by former Swedish industrial designer Maria von Eule and produced by Zound Industries, Molami feels like the ideal collision of luxury and utility that stylish female audiophiles have been searching for. The Twine Wrap Headphones, retailing at Shopbop for $350, are probably the most unique design: they mimic a headband, giving a literal spin to the brand’s “wearable sound” motto. The most deluxe set, the “Pleat” model, feature white leather and 18k gold, are fully collapsible, and sell for $450. Meanwhile, the stingray knotted ear buds are gorgeously slinky and modern and easy to stow away on the run.
Musicians Lana Del Rey and Sky Ferreira, as well as fashionable DJ personalities like Alexa Chung, already have flocked to Molami’s unusual designs, and upscale retailers like Colette are stocking them. But those who are more tech-inclined than fashion-forward should not fear: there are plans to expand availability outside the realm of luxury stores. Stay tuned.
