Sayonara, Strip Malls: GameStop Opens Store in Facebook
Top video game retailer GameStop has opened an online store in Facebook.
Enthusiasts can browse screenshots and videos, access game information and ratings, and purchase a range of hardware and software from directly within the app, as they would on the chain’s website.
The game retailer has been under increasing heat as the sale of software for set-top systems, including PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, falters following growing interest in social, free-to-play and digital download titles. With this virtual storefront in the premier social networking site, GameStop hopes to reconnect with shoppers. Recent acquisitions have included online distribution portals, streaming online game services and online, Web-based game providers.
“Social commerce on Facebook is a natural complement to our trusted store and online networks,” said Kelly Mulroney, vice president of ecommerce at GameStop. “We have millions of customers already engaging with us on Facebook, and ShopFans gives those loyal fans more reasons than ever to shop GameStop across multiple channels.”
