Pharrell and Anna Kendrick Riff on ‘Happy,’ Hats in ‘SNL’ Promos
The Arby’s hat is back: Pharrell is set to perform on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, with Anna Kendrick hosting. But, as this new promo round-up makes clear, the true star in this pairing is the Hat Seen ‘Round the World (or, at least, a massive hat that looks similar to the one Pharrell wore on the Grammys).

Throughout the clip, Pharrell and Kendrick exchange playful banter about the viral-friendly fashion accessory: In one exchange, the singer-producer notes that he “couldn’t fit [the hat] in the elevator.” Of course, given its gallon-sized celebrity status, the hat had a previous commitment, having secured a role in a “new Roy Rogers film.” (“No way!” Kendrick exclaims. “Good for him. . . her?”)
Elsewhere, the duo riff on – you guessed it – Pharrell’s ubiquitous soul-pop smash “Happy,” while also throwing out a reference to Kendrick’s acclaimed version of “Cups” (from the Pitch Perfect soundtrack). “So, Pharrell, are you. . . happy to be here?” Kendrick asks, to which he replies, “Sure, just like you’re ‘cups’ to be here.” After Kendrick assures him that phrasing makes no sense, Pharrell notes that he knows “that now.”
That pairing should make for an excellent episode – but these two have massive shoes to fill following last week’s installment, which featured comedy master Louis C.K. and a dazzling debut from R&B crooner Sam Smith.
