Play Nice: Wii 2 Coming From Nintendo in 2012
Video game publisher Nintendo has confirmed that a Wii 2 will be coming in 2012.
The successor to the company’s popular motion-sensing Wii console, which has sold 86 million systems since its November 2006 launch, will be unveiled at video game tradeshow E3 2011 this June in Los Angeles.
While no official name or details of the new console have been given, the announcement confirms some and refutes other long-standing online rumors, which speculated that a new gaming system would soon arrive, albeit by October.
Current gossip holds that the system will include high-definition (HD) graphics, more computing muscle and sell from $350 to $400. Though unconfirmed, it’s also been posited that the new Wii may support 1080p visuals and stereoscopic 3-D, giving it the horsepower and graphics chops to better compete with PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s superior hardware. Neither Microsoft nor Sony will allegedly release new video game systems until 2014.
As of a recent price drop, the Wii is now selling for $169.99.
