Gears of War 3 Offers Gamers Custom Audio Gear
Along with bucketfuls of blood, reams of punchy one-liners and endless excuses to indulge in chest-thumping machismo, sci-fi shooter Gears of War 3 for Xbox 360 will also ship with its own specially-branded audio gear in September.
Coming from well-known purveyor of gaming peripherals MadCatz, licensed accessories are slated to include a Throat Communicator, Performance Stereo Headset and Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound Headset, all offered in homicidal rampage-friendly red-and-black tones.
Looking like a futuristic collar, the Gears of War 3 Throat Communicator threatens to offer a customizable neckband and hands-free communication capabilities, letting you hurl obscenities at opponents over Xbox Live for $29.99. Whether ergonomics will outweigh its less than fashionable design, with the device designed to rest behind the neck as you coolly chainsaw screaming adversaries in half, remains uncertain.
Priced at $99.99, the Performance Stereo Gaming headset ups audio fidelity, offering noise-canceling capabilities, richer sound effects and options to hear your own voice barking out heated curses. Designed for screaming into during heated shootouts, it also promises a flexible microphone which you can quickly pull away in the middle of raging firefights to tell intruding spouses “buzz off, honey, I’ve got a galaxy to save.”
Clearly the belle of the ball, the Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound Headset will also sell for a whopping $179.99. Aiming to let you hear every bullet tear flesh from abdomen, explosion reverberate across guts-strewn alien landscapes and crispy-critter you annihilate squeal like a dying pig, its 3D acoustics and red, pulsating LED lights look to be serious stuff.
All appear to be predictable, but welcome spin-offs for the popular futuristic run-n-gun series, already known for inspiring diabolical limited edition consoles, and countless instances of killing rage.
