Google eBooks Brings Cloud Publishing to New eReader
Kindle and Nook competitor the iRiver Story HD eReader will be the first eBook reader to feature Google eBooks integration, letting you purchase digital novels online from the cloud using a WiFi connection.
Available at Target for $139.99 starting July 17, it takes aim at Amazon and Barnes and Noble’s rival e-readers by offering the ability to wirelessly download Google eBooks, including over 3 million free volumes. While more than 80 devices are currently compatible with Google’s digital publishing format, the travel-ready Story HD allows you to browse, purchase, transfer and read them without using a computer. It also offers a QWERTY keyboard and high-resolution e-ink screen, making parsing pages and searching for items of interest or specific quotes relatively straightforward.
Google’s eBooks platform, which can be accessed via online bookstore, allows users to store electronic books in the cloud and bookmark progress, so you can resume reading later on any device. Although accessible via smartphone, Android mobile device, tablet PC or eReader, the Story HD is the first eReader device to directly place Google eBooks onboard its hardware.
