Miley Cyrus Takes Over ‘Today’
Miley Cyrus continues to ride the wild wave of attention she’s received following her MTV VMA performance and the recent release of her new album, Bangerz. The pop star hosted Saturday Night Live over the weekend and caught up with Matt Lauer earlier this morning on The Today Show. Cyrus said that she doesn’t go out to intentionally offend people, but that it happens when “people don’t understand what you’re doing.” Lauer then asked how the transition from child performer to adult artist is going for the 20-year old. “I think it’s only hard if you’re trying to be something you’re not,” Cyrus answered.

Cyrus recently found herself in the midst of a feud with Sinead O’Connor, an artist whom she says she admires, but isn’t fazed by O’Connor’s public condemnation of her behavior. “I get open letters everyday, it’s not a new thing for me.” The “Wrecking Ball” singer also talked at length about her goals as a performer in addition to the steps that have led her to where she is today, and says she wouldn’t change anything. “I can’t change anything, I can’t go back. I can do a lot of things, but I can’t change the past. Anything I can’t control, I don’t really think about.”

Cyrus went on to perform “Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” surrounded by dancers dressed as mushrooms and rainbows, before performing past hit “Party in the U.S.A.” At the end of the interview, Cyrus said that she’s planning a tour that’s set to launch next year and isn’t worried about the direction she’s going. “I know who I am, and I know that I am an artist,” she said. “I put all this time and this effort into my record, and my record is proof of really who I am.”
