‘Sharknado’ Sequel to Wreak Havoc on New York
Sharknado 2: The Second One is officially happening, with stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid confirmed to start filming next month. The follow-up to last year’s low-budget smash Sharknado will be filmed and set in New York City, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will bring Los Angeles survivors Fin (Ziering) and April (Reid) to the Big Apple, where only they will be able to save its citizens and landmarks from nature’s cruelest aquatic and aerial assault.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit,” said Paul Bales, the COO of the Asylum, the studio behind Sharknado. “Can lightning strike twice? I don’t know, but it’s a scientific fact that you’re more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that’s got to count for something.”
Original director Anthony Ferrante and screenwriter Thunder Levin are also set to return to the sequel, which is scheduled to premiere on Syfy in July. A sequel to Sharknado was initially announced just days after the original scored big ratings and an even more enormous response on social media. An encore airing drew 2.1 million viewers (up from the original’s 1.4 million), and the movie went on to spawn a line of merchandise and even a theatrical release in August 2013.
