‘Community’ Crosses Darkest Timeline Into Season Five
Community‘s lovable gang of misfits have crossed the darkest timeline of Season Four and are set to return to their beloved study room. The beleaguered, but still breathing, NBC sitcom is set for an hour-long premiere on January 2nd and, with creator Dan Harmon back at the helm, Season Five is looking up with a brand new trailer full of meta-pocalyptic hilarity.
The epic trailer suggests the new season might be centered around a Lord of the Rings spoof, in which Troy (Donald Glover) is violated by the “ass-crack bandit” and Jeff (Joel McHale) must seek vengeance. It also shows a killer robot on the loose, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) assuming control of Greendale and a game of The Floor Is Lava gone horribly wrong. Cut with footage of attacking chair-walkers, rioting GCC students (Magnitude unleashes a particularly earth-shattering “Pop pop!”), a foreboding Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and a terrified Dean Pelton (Jim Rash), it makes sense that Abed (Danny Pudi) must assume the identity of everyone’s favorite crime-fighting cyborg, Kickpuncher, and deliver swift justice.
The trailer also offers a taste of some of Season Five’s big guest stars, including Justified‘s Walton Goggins as an investigator linked to Pierce (Chevy Chase, who left the show in 2012) and Breaking Bad‘s Jonathan Banks as a criminology professor. Along with Banks, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan will make a cameo this season, playing a gold-digger who fuels a fight between Abed and Annie (Alison Brie). John Oliver is set to reprise his role as Professor Ian Duncan in at least six episodes, too. Looks like plenty of mayhem is in store.
