Dismemberment Plan Put on Dancing Shoes for ‘Fallon’
When indie heroes the Dismemberment Plan reunited back in 2010, the band took the stage at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for their first performance since their 2003 split. At the time, it didn’t look like the band was going to be playing more than a handful of shows; but cut to 2013, and the Dismemberment Plan have released Uncanny Valley, their first album in 12 years. And last night the the group hit the Late Night stage again for a spot-on rendition of jaunty, but also quite poignant, album cut “Daddy Was a Real Good Dancer.”

While the song – about a father who tossed away his dancing shoes once his son came along – could ostensibly be about frontman Travis Morrison’s own childhood (his father was a competitive dancer), Morrison recently told Rolling Stone the song was inspired by Brian Eno.
“I read an interview with him, where he talked about how his dad was a drummer before he was born, and he didn’t find this out until he was, like, 40,” the singer says. “He was like, ‘Why didn’t you tell me this? I’m Brian Eno. How did this never come up?’ And it just got me thinking, you don’t know who your parents were before you were born.”
