Bill Murray Takes Over ‘Letterman’ Dressed as Liberace
Bill Murray is the king. He’s proved it a thousand times already, and last night he proved it again when he appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, making his grand entrance dressed as Liberace, complete with white Rolls Royce and a tiny puffy dog (he needed something to match the outfit).

Murray, who was Letterman’s first-ever guest on The Late Show, returned to help the host celebrate 20 years on the air, surprising him with a special gift: a giant poster of Murray’s own face above the Ed Sullivan Theater, the fine print below his massive name reading, “Wishes Dave a Happy 20th Anniversary.” The actor stayed to chat about his latest movies with Wes Anderson and George Clooney, referring to the latter, The Monuments Men, as “a meatloaf of a film, it’s got everything.”
After the break, Murray stuck around to dig up a time capsule he purportedly left under the stage after his first appearance (now is probably your one and only chance to watch Bill Murray swing a pick axe while wearing a gaudy silk cape and sequined, ruffled shirt). Mementos inside include a New York Post with Jay Leno as a front page item, Letterman’s old hairpiece and – awww – a photo of the two from that very first show.
Still haven’t had enough Bill Murray? There’s one last clip of him serenading Letterman with an impassioned, vibrato-laden rendition of Dolly Parton‘s “I Will Always Love You.” And cue the confetti!
