Lady Gaga to Host and Perform on ‘SNL’
Lady Gaga will be working a double shift on the weekend after her third album ARTPOP comes out, when she hosts and performs as the musical guest on the November 16th episode of Saturday Night Live. It will be the singer’s third appearance on the show, according to Billboard. She’s the second musician to host and perform on the show this year, following Miley Cyrus’s appearance in October.
15 Things We Learned About Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’
Right now, Gaga’s plans for her appearance remain a mystery. But with her R. Kelly duet “Do What U Want” climbing the singles charts, a guest appearance from Kelly wouldn’t be out of the question. After all, Gaga’s appearances on SNL have often seen her getting face-to-face with other pop stars. When she stopped by the show for the first time in 2009, she had to square off with Madonna, who was in town promoting her Celebration compilation, in a mock catfight. “What’s wrong, Madonna, can’t get into the groove?” she chided in a sketch. And in 2011, she served as the musical guest to host Justin Timberlake. For that appearance, she played herself in a mock gameshow sketch where she and Timberlake had to recall the names of their fans and staff. So whether it’s Kellz or no one, anything could happen.
Her appearance on the show ties into a long-running ARTPOP campaign. In October alone, Gaga leaked the album’s track list and cover art, as well as a bevy of other tidbits about the album. She released the ARTPOP songs “Do What U Want” and “Venus,” and included a snippet of the album’s opener, “Aura,” in the Machete Kills trailer. Then she announced a couple of November appearances including a performance on on the American Music Awards, a holiday special with the Muppets and now her third SNL stint.
As previously reported, Eminem will be SNL‘s musical guest this weekend when he accompanies host Kerry Washington. The show following Gagapalooza will air on November 23rd and feature musical guest Haim playing songs from their album Days Are Gone to complement host and Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson.
