Beck Contributes New Tracks to Video Game
Beck has written three new songs for the upcoming video game Sound Shapes, which developer Queasy Games will release on August 7th for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, Billboard reports.
Each of Beck’s new cuts – “Cities,” “Touch the People” and “Spiral Staircase” – will soundtrack a level. The game also includes original music from Deadmau5, I Am Robot and Proud and Jim Guthrie.
In Sound Shapes, players create beats that increase in complexity as they reach achievements by maneuvering a side-scrolling ball through the level. The game will also allow players to create their own tunes and levels. You can check out a video of Guthrie trying the game out here.
Beck isn’t the only musician contributing new tunes to video games lately: Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is currently soundtracking the upcoming game Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
“There is a lot of reservation and angst and sense of loss and regret and anger bubbling under the surface,” Reznor said of his soundtrack. “So it didn’t make sense to have a gung ho, patriotic-feeling kind of theme song. It has to feel weighty.”
