Hear “Dragon’s Song” From Blitzen Trapper’s ‘Destroyer of the Void’
Blitzen Trapper – Dragon’s Song by subpop
On June 8th, flannel-clad Oregonians Blitzen Trapper will return with their fifth record, “Destroyer of the Void,” — and Rolling Stone has an early listen to album highlight “Dragon’s Song.” “There’s a lot of stories going on this record,” frontman Eric Earley told Rolling Stone back in October, as the band was writing and recording the disc. He wasn’t kidding. On the new album, Earley delivers an epic tale of a prodigal son who battles hurricanes and dragons. He also proves he’s one of the sharpest indie-rock lyricists around, delivering mysterious lyrics crammed with brilliant internal rhymes (“Tree tops sway as they pray for the wind and the rain”) as the band delivers a perfectly messy, McCartneyish rocker.
