Phish Add 12 Shows to Reunion Tour, Plot Return to the Studio
After their triumphant return to the stage with a three-night stand at Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum and single-handedly crashing Live Nation’s new ticketing Website with their sold-out summer tour, the reunited Phish have scheduled 12 more concerts, starting with a four-night run at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre July 30th to August 2nd. The band’s trip back to Red Rocks will be their first in more than 13 years. Ticket requests are now open through the Phish Website, while the general public onsale begins March 26th.
In the new issue of Rolling Stone — which hits newsstands this week — David Fricke goes behind the scenes at Hampton to get the story of the band’s break-up (which began in August 2004 after a farewell fest in Coventry, Vermont), reunion and preparation for their big comeback gigs. Fricke reports that the band will rejoin producer Steve Lillywhite in the studio in April to begin work on their new album, their first since 2004’s Undermind. “I’m not convinced we’ve made a great record yet,” Trey Anastasio tells Fricke. The quartet already have 20 demos ready to go and one of the fresh songs, “Backwards Down the Number Line,” saw its live debut during the first night of the Hampton stand.
