The Worst Movies of January
A new year, a new Scum Bucket. It’s not even a month into 2013, and we’ve already been treated to plenty of disappointments, stale stories and idiotic tales. “Remember how I do the 10 worst of the year?” says Peter Travers. “I could do the 10 worst movies right now from one month.” Big films like Gangster Squad, Texas Chainsaw 3D, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D, Broken City and Parker are among the recent big stinks. In fact, Travers considers this month possibly the worst in his entire tenure at Rolling Stone.
The most egregious offender is the all-star, ensemble-driven “comedy” Movie 43. Despite the star power of Emma Stone, Halle Berry, Richard Gere, Greg Kinnear, Hugh Jackman, Jason Sudeikis, Naomi Watts and many others, it’s a moronic film; steer clear of this dud. “It is like people wanting to defecate on each other. Nothing in it is funny,” seethes Travers. “All of these stars: I want reasons. I want it written on a piece of paper as to why they did this. They need to give us all excuses for this movie.” Looks like 2013 is off with a bang.
