The Edge Loses Bid to Build Mansions in Malibu
The Edge's plan to build a 156-acre compound including several mansions overlooking the Pacific Ocean near Malibu has been shot down by the California Coastal Commission, who say the project would be a visual blight on a pristine ridgeline. The U2 guitarist purchased the land in 2005 and has since been fighting to get approval for the development.
A spokesperson for the Edge says that the guitarist is considering a potential lawsuit and other options that may get the project back on track. The Edge had planned to build a set of environmentally sustainable mansions featuring solar energy panels, a rainwater catchment system and on-site electric vehicle charging. Nevertheless, environmentalists in the region have objected to possibility of altering the appearance of the coast.
