Manson, Robbie Salute Ozzy
The prince of darkness got his moment in the sun today when Ozzy Osbourne received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Ozzy’s family — wife Sharon, son Jack, and daughters Kelly (all now famous thanks to the hit TV show The Osbournes) and Aimee — and fellow rockers Marilyn Manson and Robbie Williams turned up to celebrate, with Williams leading the nearly 3,000-strong crowd in a chant of “Ozzy! Ozzy!” Los Angeles police shut down a block of Hollywood Boulevard to accommodate the crowd.
“I gotta tell you, guys, I am totally surprised by this,” Osbourne said. “To say this is an honor is not enough. I’m overwhelmed.”
Osbourne’s star is located on Hollywood Boulevard at Highland Avenue, in front of the Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and it neighbors the stars of such Hollywood royalty as Bob Hope, Judy Garland and Al Jolsen.
Manson told a story of his mother trying to return his copy of Osbourne’s Blizzard of Ozz album because she was afraid the proceeds would go to the Church of Satan, before quipping, “Most people say you have to be happy to succeed and those truly unhappy go insane. This star right here [proves that] Ozzy managed to succeed despite being insane.”
