Trey Anastasio Goes Around the World in ‘Valentine’ – Premiere
For his recent solo album Traveler, Trey Anastasio linked up with an old college friend, Peter Katis, who happens to have a gorgeous recording studio in the attic of his house in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Interpol, the National and more have recorded. Add Anastasio, who takes on animated form in his new video for “Valentine,” in which cartoon Trey traverses mountains and oceans alike. Working with Katis, Anatasio says, let him capture a sound he’s long coveted.
“This album was a chance to work with new people and collaborate with a producer I love, Peter Katis, who I’ve known since 1983. He went to the University of Vermont and was in a band, the Philistines Jr. They played in a dorm room with Phish, on our second or third gig ever,” Anastasio told Rolling Stone‘s David Fricke in an interview for the new issue, currently on newsstands. “I like what he’s done with his recording career. His studio is an elaborate four-track set-up. I’ve always loved the four-track things I’ve done with [Phish lyricist] Tom Marshall. I wanted to know how to make that happen on a record. Peter managed to get that for me.”
