“Steamy” News From Who Press Conference
Remember those Who world tours in 1989, 1996, 2000 & 2004? Apparently the Who don’t. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey held a press conference today “via satellite feed from Berlin” to announce U.S. dates for what they’re billing as their “First Major World Tour In Over 20 Years.” (To be fair, many of those recent tours just encompassed just America and Europe and this time out they’re also hitting South America, Japan and Australia.) Unlike those other times, they’re also peddling new songs, which will appear on a new album Pete is tentatively calling Who 2.
Townshend said he’s currently in the process of mixing the album, their first since 1982’s It’s Hard, and he hopes to have it in stores by the fall. A limited edition EP entitled Wire and Glass was also recently released.
“We had a rather steamy gig last night in probably the worst place we ever played in our lives,” Roger Daltrey said at the conference. “I don’t know what it was built for, but it was in East Germany so use your imagination.” Townshend and Daltrey kicked off the press conference with acoustic versions of the new track “Mike Post” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” They also alluded to the possibility of playing special shows on the U.S. tour that would probably consist of complete performances of their landmark rock operas Tommy and Quadrophenia, though details are still being worked out.
Tickets for the U.S. dates will range from $52-$97 (with a “limited” amount of gold circle seats sure to cost much more). Dates are below:
