Beyonce Finds “Temptations”
Beyonce stars as a nightclub singer who goes gospel in the upcoming
movie The Fighting Temptations, but on the soundtrack
she’s sticking with girl-powered R&B.
Missy Elliott, MC Lyte and Free join her on “Fighting
Tempation,” the lead single from the soundtrack, due September 9th,
ten days before the movie opens. “It talks about everyday
situations women go through,” Beyonce says. “It’s about being
attracted to this guy but having to fight the temptation. The
change from the hip-hop part with ladies rapping to the chorus is
incredible. It’s very loose, old school.”
The soundtrack also features music from Destiny’s Child, Angie
Stone, Faith Evans, Beyonce’s sister Solange, P. Diddy, Montel
Jordan, Ann Nesby and Shirley Caesar.
In the film, Beyonce stars alongside Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Lilly,
a “down-to-earth country girl.” “I didn’t want to do anything
glamorous,” she says. “I wanted people to see me in a different
light.”
Later this year, Beyonce plans to join the other two members of
Destiny’s Child to begin writing a new album. Solange might
contribute to the writing process, but she won’t be joining the
group. “That was a rumor,” Beyonce says. “She’s working on her own
stuff. Her lyrics are incredible. I don’t know where she gets her
ideas.”
Beyonce also might have another project of her own in the works
— a follow-up to her debut Dangerously In Love could be
out by the end of the year. “I have a lot of songs I didn’t put on
my album,” she says. “There’s some great songs and I don’t want to
waste them.”
