Drowning Pool Singer Dead
Drowning Pool frontman Dave Williams was found dead on the band’s
tour bus in Manassas, Virginia, today; he was thirty. No cause of
death has yet been determined.
Williams sang in several Dallas bands in the Nineties, earning
the nickname “Stage” by fellow metal-minded Texan “Dimebag” Darrell
of Pantera. During that time, drummer Mike Luce and guitarist C.J.
Pierce relocated from New Orleans to Dallas to form a band with
bassist Stevie Benton, and the group picked Williams to be its
singer. Drowning Pool earned their first break when Sevendust
received a copy of their demo and took them out on their first
major tour. The group built a core audience, recorded a six-song
demo and scored a deal for their debut album, Sinner.
Drowning Pool appeared as unknown newcomers on last year’s
Ozzfest tour, and the exposure, along with a string of successful
singles, pushed Sinner to platinum status. For this year’s
Ozzfest, the band graduated to the main stage.
At press time, Ozzfest was scheduled to continue tomorrow night
in Bristow, Virginia.
