Drake Delivers High School Graduation Speech
Drake finally earned his high school diploma last week after dropping out of school at the age of 15 to star in the Canadian TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation. “One of the greatest feelings in my entire life,” he tweeted last Friday. “As of tonight I have graduated high school!” To mark the occasion, the 26-year-old rapper delivered the commencement address at Jarvis Collegiate Institute in Toronto, sharing the lessons he’d learned about follow-through with his fellow graduates.
“I reached a point in my life where I realized there aren’t material things that can give me the excitement that I’m looking for,” he told his cheering peers. “There’s a void in my life that I need to fill and I need to sit and think long and hard what that was. It was the fact that I had left a gaping hole in my story of following through.”
He concluded the speech by dedicating his new diploma to his mother, “because she’s a retired teacher and always wanted me to graduate,” he said. “I think I’ll sleep a little better tonight knowing that I found a way to follow through.”
