Common: ‘Cruel Winter’ Album Was Just a Rumor
Don’t hold you breath for a sequel to Cruel Summer: talk that Kanye West would follow his first G.O.O.D. Music compilation with the seasonally appropriate Cruel Winter was just a rumor, Common told New York magazine in a recent interview.
“I don’t think that’s happening,” the rapper and actor said. “It was more of a rumor – cats been creating, but everybody’s been doing their solo album. So that’s what that is.”

Rumors of the potential project have been swirling for a bit, with both Big Sean and John Legend saying that they’d recorded tracks for the sequel. In a chat with Rolling Stone, Legend said of Cruel Winter: “I have a couple of songs at least on there, and you know . . . we’ll see what makes the final cut for that as well, but I’m definitely involved. I wrote a few hooks for it.”
West and company released Cruel Summer last year after months of speculation and changing release dates, not to mention West’s new film, also titled Cruel Summer, which was projected on seven-screens and debuted at Cannes.
